Welcome to No, Seriously...
Hi. I'm Jen Logan. I'm a punk rock mom and wife of a seriously skilled creative man, who we should probably call St. John. I am a mental health therapist and CPA and I used to own a record label. I have had a few careers, and worn a lot of hats in my life. I have been married for almost 21 years now, and my daughter is about to turn 14. She doesn't like me to talk about her much because she hates to be in the spotlight which is kind of weird for a kid who is on stage all the time between theater and her rock band. I am really close with my parents, probably to a point of co-dependency, but that's okay. I love them. They are the two people who told me I could be anything I wanted to be and encouraged me to take chances.
The one thing that has been a constant in my life is punk rock music. I can tell you what I was listening to at most points in my life. I know exactly where I was and what I was doing when I learned that Kurt Cobain died and I remember when a girl was struck by lightening at the Tibetan Freedom Concert in DC. It isn't a wonder I married a musician and hear music in my house consistently.
I like to tell stories about my childhood, and my family, and the weird encounters I have in the world. These are mostly just my thoughts written down in a place my kid can one day discover and learn a little more about me. Did I mention I have a pretty high opinion of myself?
That Gym Scent
My gym is pretty eclectic. I can start a work-out on an elliptical machine next to a twenty five year old body builder and end it next to an eighty year old heart patient. One thing they all have in common is an aroma that I don't want to inhale twice. I get it, you...
We Need a Professional
One of the first people who learned I was no longer working a nine to five was the woman who cleans our house. This wasn't because it was a luxury service that we immediately discontinued once we became a one and a half income family. She was actually scheduled to...
Happy Father’s Day
My husband asked for one thing for Father's Day - a homemade card from his daughter. Mini-me is as gifted at gift giving as her mother. She had to gum up the works just a little. She made the card, but forgot to sign her name. This should explain why my card was...
Worst Boat Ride Ever
My Dad has been talking about owning a boat for a few years. For every birthday, father's day and Christmas he has asked for a boat, and he has received a variety of small plastic toys in return. This started when my parents bought a house on a lake the same year my...
The Girls Get Around
Being an only child, you need to improvise when you want to have a girls day watching movies, or a dance party. My daughter creates her parties using a couple of three foot tall Disney princesses. Although they normally reside in her playroom, they make an appearance...
The A Team
My daughter's last day of kindergarten was last week. After she picked up her prize for "her excellent French skills and for always being an active participant during class", I picked up her report card. I was happy to see that she had mastered all of the skills...
Attention Target Shoppers…
My husband and I have had fun filming. So much fun that we filmed an intro video. We wanted to incorporate all of the things that I do on a regular basis, so of course we had to film me shopping at Target. It is my second home after all. Seriously, when I got in my...
Now She’s Gone and Done It!
I love to share my mustard seed story. So much that I made a video to share it with even more people! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ds-dxETmIBo&t=18s I have an entire page dedicated to mustard seed stories. Please share your story through the links here! Don't...
She’s Charming, For Sure!
My daughter's teacher came out into the hallway this morning at drop off to tell me a story from yesterday. All of the kids were given a piece of paper with a printed poem and a blank space for them to draw a picture. They were told to draw their picture and they...
Summertime Blues
Yesterday was my daughter's last Monday in Kindergarten. She has less than two weeks left of school and then she will be home for the summer. This is going to be an interesting summer. Since she has been in school she has spent summer days with her Grandparents. A few...
Spoiler Alert – It’s Not Really Poop!
Why do kids like gross stuff? The grosser it is, the more they like it. My daughter came running up to me last night while we were shopping at Michael's yelling "Mom, I want unicorn poop! Can I get unicorn poop?" I must have looked at her like she was speaking a...
Say My Name
My Dad is a master of the nickname. He has one for everyone. Well, everyone he likes. You know you have made it to his good side once you have received a new name from him. It's like a right of passage. I think it took my husband a few years of marriage before he was...
