Hanging with the girls…

Being an only child, you need to improvise when you want to have a girls day watching movies, or a dance party. My daughter creates her parties using a couple of three foot tall Disney princesses. Although they normally reside in her playroom, they make an appearance in other rooms of the house while she is playing. Inevitably, they spend a night sitting on the couch in the family room. On these nights, my prankster husband finds it funny to set the girls up in strange places when he leaves for work in the morning. I awake to find Belle next to my bed or Anna peeking out from behind the bathroom door. He takes great pride in freaking me out first thing in the morning.

A few nights ago the prankster got to work a little early. I went down into the kitchen right before bed for a glass of water and found Belle looking for a snack in the pantry. Instead of being startled, this time I got excited. I had decided I was getting in on these tricks. I proceeded to move Belle where my husband would find her first thing in the morning. What better place than to have her holding his computer bag. I decided Anna should also join in the fun. The problem was she was not sitting where she had been a few hours earlier. After a short search, I found Anna sitting on a toilet. I should have known. My husband thinks we girls spend a lot of time in the bathroom. I had decided that she would be my husband’s new co-worker and drive to the office with him in the morning. I put her into his passenger seat after making sure she had washed her hands.

Belle the helper

Anna is his co-pilot

I could hardly sleep that night, the anticipation keeping me awake. I finally drifted off thinking of the look of surprise on my husband’s face as he climbed into his car seeing Anna smiling up at him from the other side of the console. I would finally get him.

The next morning I was not awakened by a cry of surprise from the garage as I expected. Apparently my husband does not scare as easily as I do.  He didn’t startle or shudder or tremble with fear. He wasn’t even a little freaked out! He did at least laugh. He said he expected it since he had broken the norm and set up the girls early the night before. In the morning I found Belle in my bathroom and Anna waiting to go to Grandma’s house, strapped in to my daughter’s car seat.

I didn’t give up. Anna and Belle are finding new places to hide. Anna has been creeping out from under a bed and Belle has been behind closet doors and around corners. Every place I find, he finds one a little better. I am not giving up though. Not until I hear at least a gasp from him. Time to put on my conniving cap!
